You can’t imagine life without your doggo. They snuggle up to you, greet you at the door, and make you laugh.
It’s widely known that dogs make our lives better. According to WebMD, people who own dogs have better heart health, lower stress, lower blood pressure, and experience more frequent positive moods than non-dog owners. That’s why we think it’s so important for Columbus apartments to allow dogs. When it comes down to it, you want to live somewhere that will make your life healthier and happier. And for our tenants who live in Victorian Village with dogs, there is a wealth of outdoor fun to be had near our pet-friendly Victorian Village apartments.
Victorian Village: A Beautiful Place to Walk the Dog Near our Pet-Friendly Columbus Apartments
If you’re a dog owner, you know that the daily walk is essential to prevent your dog from bouncing off the walls. Luckily, Victorian Village is one of the best places for taking leisurely strolls. With its leafy streets and historic homes, dogs and their humans can safely walk down the sidewalks and soak in the quaint surroundings. You can walk to the park or to the more bustling areas of the Short North, where you and your dog can enjoy cocktails on an outdoor patio.
So even if you don’t have the time to pile into the car and drive to one of Columbus’ many Metroparks, Victorian village is still a great place to break a sweat and let your dog get her wiggles out.
Speaking of parks, Victorian Village residents enjoy close proximity to green spaces were dogs can run and play. Here are a few of our favorite places to bring your furry friends near your pet-friendly Victorian Village apartment.
The Best Parks for Dogs in Columbus’ Victorian Village Neighborhood

Goodale Park
During the Civil War, Goodale Park was a staging area for Union Troops known as “Camp Jackson”. Today, it’s 33 acres of rolling lawns, walking paths, ponds, and trees. It’s a great place to go jogging, or to just sit on one of the benches on a warm, sunny day.
The home of Comfest (Community Festival), Goodale Park is one of Columbus’ favorite green spaces, and is a popular place for people to take their dogs. If you take your furry pal to Goodale park, you will almost certainly run into friendly neighbors and their furry friends.
Dogs will love watching the ducks on the water, running the walking trails, meeting other dogs, and getting all their sniffs in. The best thing about Goodale park? It’s walking distance from virtually every house in Victorian Village. So depending on how much time you have, you can get a good workout in by walking your dog to Goodale park, enjoying the beautiful houses you see along the way.
One local guide says, “Goodale Park is great. Every so often, community events are held here, and it’s a great place to take the dog, hang a hammock, or let the kids run wild. Highly recommend.”
Wheeler Memorial Park
Your dog has a new favorite place to get his wiggles out, and that place is Wheeler Memorial Park. This 1.5-acre park is fenced in, so dogs can safely run and play off-leash. On hot summer days, dogs can stay hydrated at the complimentary water pump, and humans can sit on at the picnic tables and benches while they watch their furry family members run around with pure joy.
One local dog owner says, “I LOVE this park. It’s a great place to bring your dogs. There’re always just enough dogs so you dog can play and run around but not too many that it becomes overcrowded. The people there are also really nice. People bring toys, so there’s always tons of tennis balls laying around for dogs to play with. This park has everything you need.”
Wheeler Memorial Park is located off Neil Avenue off Thurber Drive, behind the CVS. You’ll love how well-kempt, grassy, and leafy this park is too. The best part? You and Fido can safely walk there from your dog-friendly Victorian Village apartment for a little extra exercise.
The Olentangy Trail
Hikers, joggers, bikers, and walkers rejoice! The Olentangy Trail is a Columbus favorite for getting out in nature and enjoying the beautiful Olentangy River and surrounding woods. With its trail head up in Worthington and ending in downtown Columbus, the Olentangy Trail is a 13.75-mile bike path that winds along the Olentangy River, featuring sweeping river views and calming forest-scapes, right here in Columbus.
Victorian Village folks and their dogs will hop onto the Olentangy Trail off Neil Avenue by Goodale Park. One local sings praises of the Olentangy Trail, saying “It’s beautiful at sunset! It’s great for running and is remarkably well maintained in the winter.” So if you and your dog are up for some winter hiking in downtown Columbus, this is the place to begin.
For a couple years, Columbus has been working on a project known as “The Green Belt Network”, which connects over 92 miles of nature trails throughout Columbus. The Olentangy, Alum Creek, Camp Chase, and Big Walnut are trails that make up this green beltway that will connect Columbus parks and neighborhoods (and will also be a great chance for you and your dog to explore Columbus together on foot!) Get ready to lace up those hiking boots!
