What is Holiday Hop?
If you know the Short North, then you know that it’s a neighborhood that celebrates community and culture in anyway that it can. That’s one of the major reasons that the Short North hosts Gallery Hop, a neighborhood-wide event on the first Saturday of every month. Each Gallery Hop, thousands gather to explore the Short North and the shops, restaurants, and galleries therein. Gallery Hop is one of the special events that makes the Short North considered one of the best Arts Districts in the nation.
But Holiday Hop is different than Gallery Hop. Holiday Hop happens once a year on the first Saturday of any given December. This year, the timing couldn’t be more perfect—Holiday Hop lands on the very first of the month: December 1st. In Columbus the countdown to Christmas kicks off with Holiday Hop and the Short North transforms into a winter wonderland, The Short North Pole.
Dozens of performers fill the streets and shops set up special Christmas-themed displays (which you can vote on, by the way). Christmas Trees light the way, as do High Street’s glowing arches. Santa waits to be greeted. Restaurants, galleries, and shops all welcome the ebb and flow of crowds. Gallery Hop is awesome—don’t get us wrong, but it just doesn’t have the magic that Holiday Hop does.

This year, there’s a reward for the fun.
Participate in the Short North’s Holiday Trail and you’ll be able to collect a $50 parking meter gift card at Le Meridien, The Joseph Hotel. Why does something this awesome exist? Short answer: Huntington Bank wanted to reward shopping at local businesses.

- Pick up a Holiday Trail Map at one of over 30 participating businesses, or in the December 2018 edition of (614) Magazine.
- Receive a sticker every time you make a purchase at a participating business.
- Collect five stickers to redeem your Holiday Trail Map at Le Meridien, The Joseph Hotel for a $50 parking meter gift card (while supplies last).
Everyone knows how crazy it can be to park in the Short North. That’s the reason why we wrote everything you need to know about the Short North’s new parking rules.
Getting rewarded for supporting local businesses? That’s not a bad deal at all. And by the way, the Holiday Trail is active from December 1-December 31, but the gift cards are first come, first serve. You don’t have to hit all five stores on Holiday Hop, but we can’t think of a better time to start.

Before Hai Poké came to the Short North, we’re willing to bet that very few people, if anyone, new about this classic Hawaiian fisherman’s dish.
